Miniature Pinscher

Miniature Pinscher Dog Breed Information

Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher is not a dainty version of the Doberman Pinscher. Conversely Herr Doberman, the creator of the Doberman Pinscher, so admired MinPins that he styled his breed in their likeness.

Developed instead from a larger German Pinscher, MinPins were originally utilized as ratters in stables. Today's MinPins are beloved family members living in the lap of luxury. Hardy, energetic and intelligent this alert breed also readily acts as a watchdog. They love to bark and act very self-important, so if a burglar does come snooping, they'll think you have a much bigger dog living at home!

Miniature Pinschers do pretty well with kids as long as they're not pestered too much. They're fairly protective of their family and can be suspicious of strangers. Pinschers love to learn and pick up commands quickly. It is important to socialize this breed early on so they learn to get along with other dogs.

This breed is great for apartment living, as they don't need a ton of exercise. They play well indoors, but be careful of their acrobatic tendencies! If taken outside they need to be protected from the cold weather with a sweater.

Because of their short coat grooming is basically non-existent. Care needs to be taken with this breed because they do love chewing on small things found around the house, and can easily choke.

The Miniature Pinscher was first registered with the AKC in 1925.
