Q: Just wondering if this basket has the capability of holding 2 small dogs that together weigh less than 20lbs? or if there is an alternative rear mounted or front mounted basket that is capable.

A: This basket is larger than the front mounted baskets and is capable of holding 2 small dogs, however, there is only one tether strap. You would need to devise a way to secure a second dog.

Q: Hey! Can this be used on the back of a motorcycle? :)

A: I never tried it on the back of a motorcycle. I doubt the connections would be stable enough for the forces it would endure. Solid rails and a solid seat would be a better choice.

Q: How does it mount to the bike? Rear rack I assume and is it a universal mount? We have Nashbar bike racks.

A: Currently (04/01/2012) the only color available is black. There is very thick foam padding around this seat which would dissipate the heat from reaching the interior, and the faux lambswool interior helps with keeping dogs cooler.

Q: Does the rear seat basket come with a rain cover? Will you be making it in any other colors?

A: The manufacturer rates this item to 24 pounds. The dog in the video is 5 pounds. It would not be advisable to use this for dogs over 20 pounds due to safety concerns for the dog and the rider.

Q: Confused as description says "Never secure to your dog while riding)
Is it then not recommended that the dog be secured in the basket while bike riding?

A: Never secure your dog to a "collar" always use a harness to prevent injury to their sensitive necks.

Q: I am confused. The description for the Dog Bike Basket - Rear Seat Rider says the basket is for dogs up to 24 pounds. In the FAQ section it says "The manufacturer rates this item to 24 pounds. The dog in the video is 5 pounds. It would not be advisable to use this for dogs over 20 pounds due to safety concerns for the dog and the rider." Which is it?? My dog is 22 pounds.
Answered by GWL, June 24, 2013 at 02:17:31 AM EDT.
A: Sorry for the confusion. Most manufacturers will rate their items based on the structural integrity of the product. However, the physical stature of a dog weighing that amount may not be realistic for the dimensions of the item.
In other words, a hand-held basket at the grocery store could hold 100 pounds, but you wouldn't try to put a golden retriever in one.
In the interest of safety we discourage pushing the limits of the manufacturers claims on this product.
