Do not confuse microsuede fabrics with Ultrasuede, there is a considerable difference. Here are some interesting points about "Genuine Ultrasuede"…
Ultrasuede is a synthetic fabric owned and manufactured by Toray International America Inc. of the Toray Group. According to the Ultrasuede website, "Ultrasuede delivers unparalleled luxury, appeal, performance and ease of care." The material is used in "shoes, hats, bags, luxury autos, yachts, airplanes, high-end jewelry display cases, pet products" and more.
History: Ultrasuede was created in 1970. It began when Dr. Miyoshi Okamoto of Toray Industries created the "world's first ultra-microfiber" material. Several months later, Dr. Toyohiko Hikota transformed this discovery into what is now known as Ultrasuede.
Benefits:
According to the Ultrasuede website, Ultrasuede "combines the rich aesthetics of a suede surface with benefits no animal product could ever offer." It is described as "soft, supple and sensuous to the touch." Ultrasuede is "also resistant to stains and discoloration" and is "machine-washable
and dry-cleanable."
Types:
Ultrasuede is made in a "number of weights" to better meet the needs of its purpose. Thicker weighted Ultrasuede, for instance, is used in furniture or car upholstery to better endure everyday use. Lighter Ultrasuede is typically used for clothing so it's more comfortable to wear.
