The American Toy Fox Terrier was developed in the United States by selectively breeding "runt" sized Smooth Fox Terriers with Chihuahuas and English Toy Terriers. Unlike its ancestors, the American Toy Fox Terrier was bred purely to be a companion animal not a working terrier breed. A true "toy terrier" the American Toy Fox Terrier is a spunky companion that retains its puppyhood well into adulthood.

Toy Fox Terriers are very loyal and affectionate, with a lively, curious attitude that makes them a pleasure to have around the house. They are highly intelligent, therefore making them easy to train. They are often used as hearing dogs for the deaf and companions for the handicapped.

Toy Fox Terriers are not recommended for families with small children due to their petit size. They make great watchdogs, and will not bark incessantly.

Because of their terrier instincts, Toy Fox Terrier's will fight small animals so be wary of your kids letting the pet guinea pig out!

This breed is very sensitive to cold weather and will need a sweater during the winter. They play well indoors and although they are energetic do not need a yard. They'll tire themselves out chasing balls on their own!

Their coat is very easy to take care of, and they shed only minimal amounts.

The American Toy Fox Terrier was first registered with the AKC in 2003. For more information on this fascinating little breed visit the American Toy Fox Terrier Club website at www.atftc.com or the American Kennel Club at www.akc.org.
